OVERDENTURE BARS

Bar systems may be utilized for overdentures, removable partial dentures, and implant prosthesis. Bars may be rigid or resilient, permitting free movement of the prosthesis to direct forces away from the retaining abutments to the supportive bone and tissue. Bar systems are generally in one of three types:

1. Prefabricated ‘Dolder’ type

2. Plastic ‘Hader’ type

3. Round ‘Clip" bars and riders

The shape of the bar is indicated by the amount of room available, by the shape of the alveolar ridge, and the type of construction. However, we recommend the round plasti-wax bar, which may be more easily bent to follow the alveolar crest. Do not engage labial soft tissue undercuts with the denture base flange, as this will alter the path of insertion and cause excessive wear and servicing requirements.

The Preci-Horix, or Hader, bar and rider system is the most popular of all bar systems due to its economy and simplicity. The Hader bar is available as a burnout pattern in plastic and plastic wax, and also in either palladium alloy or a yellow gold alloy.

The system allows the prosthesis to rotate around the bar. The riders may be either the plastic rider or the precious metal Ackermann clip. Another advantage is superior stability, retention, and the option of abutment splinting. Recommended use is processing the Horix Metal Housings into the denture using the Horix Processing Spacers, and then using one of the three grips of plastic Horix clips in the metal housings.

Relines or making a new prosthesis is made easy by using the Horix White Delrin Analogues in the impression.

Preci-Bar (Dolder)

Preci Bar Instructions

The Preci (Dolder) Bar is produced in a precious palladium alloy which is stronger, less expensive, and has a higher fusing temperature than the traditional yellow alloys or as a plastic wax casting pattern. The bar and sleeve attachment are used for retaining removable partial dentures and overdentures.

The pear or oval shape is used for a resilient prosthesis providing vertical or rotational movements. The 'U' shape is for a rigid, or non- resilient, prosthesis. The dimensions on both bars are 2.2mm height, and 50mm length. A larger size rigid Dolder bar is available.

Round Bar

Round Bar Instructions

A round bar is useful in situations where the bar must be bent to accommodate the ridge anatomy, or in close-bit situations.

Ackermann Clips

Ackermann Clip Technique

The Ackermann clip is an universal precious metal clip or rider that will fit the Preci Horix/Hader, Preci Bar, or round bar. The Ackermann clip features adjustable retention, easy patient insertion and removal, while requiring less vertical space due to its horizontal retention tangs.

Due to its short (3.6mm) length, the sleeve may be positioned on the bar even in a deep narrow trough. No soldering of the clip is required. The horizontal retention tangs provide firm retention in acrylic and require no additional vertical space.

C-118 Metal Riders

The Metal Rider is an universal clip or rider that will fit the Preci Horix/Hader, Preci Bar, or round bar. The clip features adjustable retention, easy patient insertion and removal, while requiring less facial-lingual space due to its occlusal retention tangs.

Do not solder the clip. The occlusal retention tangs provide firm retention in acrylic and require no additional vertical space.

Available in both gold and stainless.

8° Tapered Plasti-Wax Bars

Clean burnout plasti-wax bar patterns for use with quick set investment.  Ideal for implant supported bar overdenture constructions.  Package of 4.

Castable Bar Patterns--all shapes

The castable plastic and plasti-wax patterns are available in profiles of the Hader and Round bars to facilitate the use of non-precious alloys and direct casting. The plastic wax burnout patterns are recommended when using a fast burnout technique.

All are available in packages of 4 to facilitate the shaping and contouring of bars to the individual anatomy.

The bars are approximately 6 cm long. The diameter is 1.8 mm for Hader and round bars.

Very economical and Easy to work with!

Horix/Hader metal housings

The thin (0.2mm) metal housings are available for accurate seating of the plastic clips. These are used in conjunction with the processing spacers on the model to ensure an accurate seating of the clips. The advantages of using the metal housings are easy insertion, removal, and replacement of the clips without altering the prosthesis.

3 Grips of Hader Clips

Preat is proud to offer a new solution to past problems with under sized or over polished bars. Now you may select from one of three grips of Hader clips--the standard yellow, reduced retention white (also used for processing), and the increased retention orange clips. When utilized with the metal housings, adjusting retention for the patient is simple--remove the present clip and insert the proper retention clip. Also, look for the word ‘HADER’ on the ends of the clips--it is the only way to ensure you are getting the genuine Hader clips.
